EC Assets backs plans for a new airport in Switzerland

Europe's highest regional airport in Samedan near St. Moritz is to be further developed and replaced by modern new terminal buildings.

A jury of experts selected the work of Hosoya Schaefer Architects and Blarer & Reber Architekten as the winning project in the spring. EC Assets is now actively working with all parties involved to further develop the plans into a construction project, which will then be realized in phases.

Initially, the terminal, control tower, office space, restaurant and the entire passenger and goods control will be the focus. To the southwest, new helicopter hangars will then be built for REGA and other regional helicopter companies, according to a statement issued on Monday morning.

Government emphasizes the outstanding importance of the airport for the region.

The regional airport in Samedan is of great importance for the Engadin and the canton of Graubünden, said government president Mario Cavigelli at the project presentation. As an employer and feeder for tourism, it is an important economic driver, and as a base for rescue and transport flights of the local helicopter companies, it contributes significantly to the security of supply of the region.

In order to further modernize operations, new hangars for operational vehicles and the fire department as well as aircraft hangars will be built to the northeast of the control tower at a later date. In parallel with the replacement of the buildings, the apron areas, taxiways and parking areas will also be renewed and adapted, and technical equipment brought up to the latest standards.

EC Assets as a real estate investor and project developer is keen to be involved in the realization of this important infrastructure measure. An investment volume of approximately 150 million Swiss francs and a term of 30 years is planned.

In charge for the project is the London team of EC Assets.
