Bakkafrost Shares Fall 5% in Oslo Following Q3 Trading Update
By EC Assets · Published
Shares of P/F Bakkafrost dropped sharply on Monday, falling 5% to trade at 431.4 NOK on the Oslo stock exchange. The retreat by the Faroe Islands-based salmon producer outpaced the wider market, where the benchmark OSEBX index fell 0.47%. Market pricing indicated Bakkafrost stock fell as much as 5.55% in early trading on 2 November 2026. The sell-off coincided with the publication of the company's Q3 2026 trading update, issued pursuant to regulatory disclosure requirements. The Q3 2026 trading update listed Chief Executive Officer Regin Jacobsen and Chief Financial Officer Høgni Dahl Jakobsen as primary executive contacts. Trading under the ticker BAKKA in Oslo and BKFKF in international markets, the salmon producer experienced persistent selling pressure across the session. The downward move followed earlier quarters marked by sharp price adjustments and regional production difficulties. Financial performance from recent operating periods reflects the operational headwinds confronting the aquaculture group. In the second quarter of fiscal 2025, Bakkafrost recorded revenues of DKK 1.6 billion and an operational EBIT of DKK 65 million. The operational EBIT fell sharply on a year-on-year basis, driven by a 33% drop in market prices for salmon alongside operational setbacks at farming operations in Scotland. Regional farming operations in Scotland created significant financial pressure for the group. Accounts for Bakkafrost Scotland showed deepening losses of £64 million for the major Scottish salmon farming operator. The Scottish business unit recorded a 28% decrease in annual turnover, falling from £237 million to £171 million amid challenging site conditions. The current operational contraction marks a contrast to performance recorded earlier in the corporate cycle. In the first quarter of 2024, the company posted increases in both revenues and operational EBIT. During that operating period, the business maintained expectations for high harvest levels and production growth through 2026. Historical share price records show the equity previously traded near 200 NOK before advancing across subsequent market cycles. Earlier corporate results also show historical earnings fluctuations across past reporting cycles. Trailing twelve-month earnings calculated from 31 March 2018 declined to øre704.67 million, reflecting a 41.50% drop compared to the previous twelve months. That single-year earnings growth rate tracked below the firm's historical average. Across wider financial markets, late October witnessed broader pressure as falling technology shares tracked persistent weakness in corporate bond markets. The Q3 2026 trading update from Chief Executive Officer Regin Jacobsen and Chief Financial Officer Høgni Dahl Jakobsen marks the latest operational benchmark for the firm. Group targets through 2026 continue to center on achieving projected harvest volumes while addressing farming conditions in Scotland and absorbing shifts in global salmon prices.
