Banca Ifis Shares Fall After Bank of Italy Flags Control Issues

Banca Ifis shares declined significantly after the Bank of Italy identified issues regarding control. The Italian bank's stock tumbled 12% following the central bank's flagging of these concerns. This development arrives amid ongoing consolidation activities within Italy's banking sector. Banca Ifis previously made a bid for Illimity Bank. The Wall Street Journal reported this bid was for $308.7 million. This move contributed to heating up Italy's banking mergers and acquisitions landscape. The Bank of Italy authorized the merger of Illimity Bank with Banca Ifis. The Italian banking sector has seen a wave of consolidation. This wave includes Banca Ifis's bid for Illimity. Banca Ifis has also expanded its capabilities in the non-performing loan (NPL) market. The company acquired FBS, creating an integrated player for Italy's NPLs. This acquisition allows Banca Ifis to offer a comprehensive range of solutions for all NPL market asset classes. It positions the Group as an integrated operator in the NPL management sector. Under the deal, FBS joined the Banca Ifis Group. Banca Ifis also acts as a pathfinder in finance. The company developed the first securitization in Italy of NPLs assisted by orders of assignment. Moody's and Scope assigned a rating of A2 and A- to the senior notes of this pioneering transaction. This transaction involves a new type of non-performing exposure. Shares in Banca Ifis have previously seen gains. They jumped as much as 6% after the bank stated its parent company would complete a proposed move of its registered offices to Switzerland.
