This action follows concerns that broad U.S. sanctions against the war crimes tribunal could compel AXA to stop doing business with the ICC. The Financial Times reported the ICC's move. The ICC cut ties with AXA to shield itself from U.S. sanctions. The move came after fears that the sanctions would force the insurer to cease its operations with the court or face punishment. The United States has targeted the ICC president with sanctions. The U.S. government has also described the court as "corrupt."
