MongoDB Shares Drop 15% on CEO Desai's Immediate Resignation for Meta Role

MongoDB shares plunged 15% on Monday following the resignation of its President and CEO, Chirantan "CJ" Desai. Mr. Desai departed to pursue a senior role at Meta Platforms. Wall Street experienced a significant shock from the announcement. Mr. Desai's departure was effective immediately. His move to Meta Platforms is described as a high-profile talent acquisition. The data services company's shares fell sharply after Meta hired Mr. Desai. MongoDB's board of directors moved quickly to address the transition. Dev Ittycheria was appointed to take the helm. Mr. Ittycheria previously served in a leadership capacity at MongoDB from 2014 to 2025. Before this move, Mr. Desai served as Cloudflare's executive for the past year. He was scheduled to replace Dev Ittycheria as MongoDB CEO, effective November 10. Mr. Ittycheria, who led MongoDB through its 2017 public offering, was stepping down at that time. MongoDB had previously announced Mr. Desai would replace Mr. Ittycheria. Mr. Desai had recently outlined MongoDB's strategic focus. He cited enterprise modernization, AI-native customers, and product enhancements as key growth drivers.
