Morgan Stanley Selects CaixaBank as Top Pick on Net Interest Outlook

By EC Assets · Published

Morgan Stanley has designated Spanish lender CaixaBank as a top pick within the financial sector. The firm based its selection on an expected rebound in net interest income. The positive assessment positioned the bank at the center of institutional attention on November 2, 2026. Trading activity reflected positive momentum across Spanish banking equities following the note. Shares of CaixaBank, trading under the ticker CABK, rose 1.68 percent. Shares of peer lender Banco de Sabadell, listed under the ticker SABE, also advanced, climbing 1.89 percent. CaixaBank equity also trades in international markets under the ticker CAIXY. The top pick selection marks a shift from earlier adjustments by Morgan Stanley on the Spanish lender. In a previous assessment, the investment bank downgraded CaixaBank to Equal Weight from Overweight. At that time, the firm reduced its price target on CaixaBank shares to 6.25 euros, down from an earlier target of 6.50 euros. The prior rating reduction was driven by broader macroeconomic conditions across the continent. Morgan Stanley cited an uncertain backdrop for European financials in 2025 as the primary factor behind that downgrade. CaixaBank executive leadership has maintained ongoing dialogue with investment analysts at industry gatherings. Chief Executive Officer Gonzalo Gortazar and Chief Financial Officer Javier Pano previously represented CaixaBank, S.A. at the Morgan Stanley European Financials Conference to address institutional investors. The focus on net interest income highlights the importance of core lending margins for European banking institutions. While Morgan Stanley previously emphasized an uncertain operating backdrop for European financials heading into 2025, the latest selection reflects renewed focus on lending income recovery at CaixaBank.
