Rheinmetall Shares Plunge 16% on Guidance Cut and Warship Cancellation
By EC Assets · Published
Shares of German defense contractor Rheinmetall faced sharp downward pressure today following a downward revision to the company's financial outlook. The stock experienced high volatility, plunging as much as 16% as investors reacted to stalled military contracts and reduced revenue expectations for the year. The decline comes directly after Rheinmetall trimmed its 2026 guidance by 300 million euros. The reduction in forward targets reflects the impact of a cancelled order from the German government earlier this year, specifically tied to the F126 warship program. The loss of that contract has created immediate headwinds for the arms manufacturer's medium-term sales outlook. The trimmed guidance emerged even as the company posted strong underlying operational performance. For the period, the defense firm saw overall sales grow by 39%, while profits rose by 74%. Despite this earnings and revenue expansion, the negative revision to future expectations overshadowed the gains and triggered the heavy sell-off. The volatility highlights the sector's operational exposure to procurement decisions, even as European nations pursue domestic military manufacturing capacity. Rheinmetall recently established a new artillery barrel plant in Telford, establishing physical manufacturing infrastructure as European governments emphasize the reshoring of defense production and aim to out-produce international rivals.
