SpaceX Stock Experiences Volatile Trading Post-IPO

SpaceX shares have experienced significant volatility since their market debut earlier this month. The stock, trading under the ticker SPCX, launched on June 12 on the Nasdaq. It opened trading at $135 a share. The stock quickly surged to nearly $226 before settling around $160. Following this initial surge, shares have fallen 35% from peak levels. The stock rebounded slightly on Tuesday after dipping below its market offering price in early trade. On Tuesday, SpaceX shares closed at $156.11, marking a nearly 1% gain for the day. This gain was a slight recovery from a 16% fall on Monday, which had dropped the stock below $150. SpaceX announced a $25 billion bond offering. Shares dropped 5% to $147, their lowest level since opening at $150. Retail investors purchased over $405 million of SpaceX during its first five trading sessions. This represents the largest first-week retail purchase of any IPO on record. Half of all traders on the moomoo platform bought SPCX. Cathie Wood's ARK Invest acquired SpaceX shares on Monday as the stock extended losses in a three-day losing streak after its market debut. The price swings in SpaceX stock since its initial public offering highlight the inherent risks.
