Alibaba Bans Claude Code Over Alleged Security Risks

Alibaba will prohibit its employees from using Anthropic's Claude Code in workplace environments. The Chinese tech company cited alleged security risks. This restriction will take effect starting July 10. Employees are instructed to uninstall Anthropic's Claude products, including Claude Sonnet, Opus, and Code. Alibaba classified the Anthropic tool as high-risk software. The prohibition is due to alleged security risks involving embedded backdoors. The reported restriction on Claude Code comes amid a wider Claude-Qwen dispute. Anthropic stated it identified activity through IP data and coordinated with industry partners. The company has moved to close loopholes that allowed Chinese access to its AI models. The allegations add to rising US concerns over AI competition.
