Bright Minds Biosciences Drops 52% on FDA Partial Clinical Hold

By EC Assets · Published

Shares of Bright Minds Biosciences Inc. fell sharply in morning trading on Monday after federal regulators intervened in the development of its experimental seizure therapy. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration placed a partial clinical hold on the company's investigational new drug application for its compound BMB-101. The regulatory decision halted the planned clinical trial for the therapeutic, which is designed to treat seizures. The stock lost more than half of its value shortly after the market opened. Bright Minds Biosciences, which trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker DRUG, saw its shares tumble as much as 52% during Monday morning trade. The steep drop followed confirmation that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration initiated the partial hold following an agency review of the company's filing. The regulatory action directly targets BMB-101, an investigational therapeutic intended for the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy and related seizure disorders. The partial clinical hold was placed on the investigational new drug application and the corresponding planned Phase 2 study. The regulatory suspension interrupts the development path for BMB-101, which serves as a central candidate in the company's epilepsy portfolio. The drug candidate had previously been scheduled for a Phase 2 clinical data readout in the second quarter of 2025. Advancement of the BMB-101 Phase 2 clinical trial now depends on the company addressing the issues identified during the regulatory review and securing clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to lift the partial clinical hold.
