TSX Futures Rise Ahead of US Inflation Data, Amid Oil Price Concerns
By EC Assets · Published
TSX futures indicate an upward trend ahead of upcoming U.S. inflation figures. Futures tracking Canada's main stock index were muted on Thursday, as markets awaited U.S. inflation data. This data provides clues on the Federal Reserve's monetary policy outlook. Earlier this week, TSX futures dipped on Wednesday. This decline occurred as intensifying Middle East hostilities drove oil prices toward $100 a barrel. This situation rekindled inflation fears and weakened investor risk appetite. Brent crude rose above US$100 a barrel on Wednesday for the first time since July. This rise happened as fighting between the U.S. and Iran escalated. The move renewed inflation concerns and impacted TSX energy stocks. U.S.-Iran tensions have pushed oil toward $100, which revives inflation fears. US equity funds recorded nine-month high outflows as oil stoked inflation fears. Investors pulled money from equity funds due to rising oil prices fueling inflation fears. Treasury yields moved higher on Thursday as traders awaited the release of U.S. wholesale inflation data. Earlier in the week, futures tied to Canada's main stock index rose on Tuesday. This signaled a recovery after a sharp decline on Friday. That decline was due to renewed U.S.-China tensions that triggered profit-taking. In May, futures tracking Canada's blue-chip stocks rose as a deal to extend the U.S.-Iran ceasefire renewed hopes for an end to the Middle East conflict. Investors were also looking ahead to GDP data releases then. Markets will continue to monitor U.S. inflation data for its implications on the Federal Reserve's policy decisions. The ongoing situation in the Middle East and its impact on oil prices remains a key factor influencing investor sentiment and inflation expectations.
