Visiting Mannheim's St. Josef Orphanage

Last Friday we brought 120 portions of ice cream from Eis Fontanella to St. Josef Kinderheim, the Catholic children's home in Mannheim-Käfertal.

No programme. No staging. Just a warm afternoon, a freezer full of cups, and a courtyard of children who were visibly delighted.

St. Josef Kinderheim has been caring for children and young people in Mannheim since 1851. Around 80 young people live there today in residential groups and shared homes, many of them arriving from situations where their own family home has broken down. The work the team does is quiet, patient, and largely invisible to the wider public. It deserves more attention than it gets.

Eis Fontanella is a Mannheim institution of its own. The Fontanella family has been making ice cream here since 1933. Dario Fontanella invented Spaghettieis in this city. Three generations later, what began as Mannheim's first Italian ice-cream salon has become part of the city's identity.

At EC Assets we believe it's the small gestures that matter. Not as a campaign. Not as a communications exercise. But as a simple sign that the people doing this work every single day are seen.

To the team at St. Josef Kinderheim: thank you for what you have been doing for generations. For the children, and for a city that would be poorer without you.

Am vergangenen Freitag haben wir 120 Portionen Eis von Eis Fontanella ins Katholische Kinderheim St. Josef in Mannheim-Käfertal gebracht.

Kein großes Programm. Keine Inszenierung. Nur ein warmer Nachmittag, ein Kühlfach voller Becher, und ein Hof voller Kinder, die sich sichtlich darüber gefreut haben.

Das Kinderheim St. Josef begleitet seit 1851 Kinder und Jugendliche in Mannheim. Rund 80 junge Menschen leben heute dort in Wohngruppen und Wohngemeinschaften, viele aus Lebenssituationen, in denen das eigene Zuhause zerbrochen ist. Die Arbeit des Teams ist leise, geduldig, und für die Öffentlichkeit meist unsichtbar. Sie verdient mehr Aufmerksamkeit, als sie bekommt.

Eis Fontanella ist in Mannheim ebenfalls eine Institution. Seit 1933 stellt die Familie Fontanella hier ihr Eis her. Dario Fontanella hat in dieser Stadt das Spaghettieis erfunden. Drei Generationen später ist aus der ersten italienischen Eisdiele Mannheims ein Stück lokaler Identität geworden.

Bei EC Assets glauben wir, dass gerade die kleinen Gesten zählen. Nicht als Kampagne, nicht als Kommunikationsmaßnahme. Sondern als ein einfaches Zeichen dafür, dass die Menschen, die diese Arbeit jeden Tag leisten, gesehen werden.

An das Team des Kinderheims St. Josef: Danke für das, was ihr seit Generationen tut. Für die Kinder, und für eine Stadt, die ohne euch ärmer wäre.
