Applied Materials Commits $5 Billion to India Semiconductor Expansion

Applied Materials will invest $5 billion in India. This investment will support the expansion of semiconductor research and development, supply chains, and talent. The company plans to achieve this goal by 2035 under its Vision 2035 initiative. The US chip equipment major will deepen its research and development capabilities in India. Prabu Raja, President of Applied Materials' Semiconductor Products Group, stated the company is committing to a new 140-acre research park in India. The company will also expand its India supply chain tenfold. This initiative supports New Delhi's efforts to build a broader semiconductor ecosystem. Applied Materials' investment comes as Prime Minister Modi’s flagship chip event begins. The company's shares fell 5.8% in pre-market trading on Monday to $430. This decline followed calls from technology executives for a slower pace of advanced semiconductor development. Applied Materials provides tools for chip manufacturing.
