TotalEnergies Targets $10 Billion Argentina Investment

TotalEnergies plans a $10 billion investment in Argentina. Chief Executive Patrick Pouyanne stated this on Thursday. The French energy company's capital commitment underscores its presence in the South American nation. TotalEnergies is a significant participant in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. Its CEO has previously noted that growth in LNG demand will originate from Asia. The company's CEO also reported that refining margins are at unprecedented levels. Despite a drop in profit and rising debt, TotalEnergies maintains its share buyback program. The company has executed disposals which included assets in Argentina. TotalEnergies previously sold its 45% operated interest in two Vaca Muerta unconventional blocks. Total Austral, an affiliate, signed an agreement with YPF SA for this sale. YPF is Argentina's state-run oil and gas producer. YPF was nearing a deal to acquire domestic shale oil assets from TotalEnergies. This deal could be valued at $400 million to $500 million.
