Warren Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Chair, Becomes Chairman Emeritus

Warren Buffett has stepped down as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. The company named him chairman emeritus. His son, Howard Buffett, assumes the role of chairman. Berkshire Hathaway announced the change on Friday, September 18. Warren Buffett, 96, will continue to serve as a director for the company. He previously left his CEO position at the beginning of the year. Howard Buffett was elected Chairman. He has served on Berkshire's board since 1993. Susan Decker remains Lead Independent Director. Warren Buffett described the transition in a letter to shareholders, stating, "Father Time always wins." Howard Buffett, 71, is viewed as the guardian of the unique Berkshire culture. This culture was established by his father and longtime lieutenant Charlie Munger over decades.
