Reddit to Join S&P 500, Shares Jump

Reddit is scheduled to join the S&P 500 index on August 18. This inclusion sent shares on an after, hours rally. S&P Dow Jones Indices selected Reddit for the benchmark index. Reddit shares rose 11% to $175.12 after hours. The social media company will replace AvalonBay Communities in the index. Reddit's inclusion follows months of speculation and past snubs. The move makes Reddit only the second pureplay social media company in the S&P 500. S&P Dow Jones Indices is the entity responsible for decisions on index composition.
